GPS Tracker Installation Guide

Install and verify OBD2 or hardwired GPS trackers, then confirm power, location, ignition, trip history, and technician follow-up in Traxelio.

1

Before You Install

A tracker is not installed until it reports correctly. Before touching the vehicle, prepare the device, account, vehicle access, and verification path.

Your GPS tracker with a working SIM card installed

The IMEI number noted for platform registration

Access to your Traxelio account

Basic tools: screwdriver, wire strippers, electrical tape (for hardwired)

Vehicle parked in a clear, well-lit area with ignition off

Vehicle manual to locate OBD2 port or fuse box

2

OBD2 Plug-and-Play Installation

OBD2 installation is the quickest path when the vehicle exposes a compatible diagnostic port. The job is simple, but verification still matters.

1

Locate the OBD2 port under your dashboard, usually near the steering column

2

Ensure the vehicle ignition is OFF before connecting

3

Insert the OBD2 tracker firmly into the port until it clicks

4

Turn the ignition to ON (engine can remain off)

5

Wait 30-60 seconds for the tracker LED to indicate connection

3

Hardwired Installation

Hardwired installation gives you a hidden setup and better control over power and ignition signals. Use a technician if you are not comfortable identifying constant power, ground, and ACC wiring.

1

Disconnect the vehicle battery (negative terminal first)

2

Choose a hidden location for the tracker (under dashboard, behind panels)

3

Connect the RED wire to a constant 12V power source

4

Connect the BLACK wire to a ground point (metal chassis)

5

Connect the YELLOW/ACC wire to an ignition-switched power source (optional)

6

Secure all connections with proper connectors and electrical tape

7

Mount the tracker in your chosen location with zip ties or adhesive

8

Reconnect the battery and verify the tracker powers on

4

Activating Your Tracker

After the physical install, register the device so Traxelio can match the tracker IMEI to the correct vehicle and subscription.

1

Log in to your Traxelio account or mobile app

2

Navigate to Add Device or Devices section

3

Enter your tracker IMEI number (15 digits)

4

Give your vehicle a name (e.g., Van 01, Delivery Truck)

5

Wait for the tracker to appear on your map after it connects

5

Testing Your Installation

Traxelio installation checks turn handoff into a checklist. The owner and technician can confirm the same vehicle, appointment, notes, status, and contact details before the vehicle goes back to work.

Check that the tracker appears online in your dashboard

Verify the location shown matches where the vehicle is parked

Start the engine and confirm ignition status updates

Take a short test drive and check that trip history records

Test an alert by exceeding a speed limit or entering/exiting a geofence

Schedule an Installation Check

Book an installation verification appointment directly from the app. Select the vehicle, location, assign a technician, and pick a time slot.

Track Verification Status

Both technician and customer see the same appointment details. Add notes like "ACC wire not working" so the technician knows what to look at before arriving.

Technician Contact

Call or email the assigned technician directly from the appointment screen for quick coordination.

Schedule an installation check in Traxelio with vehicle, address, technician, and time slot selection

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If the tracker does not report correctly after installation, separate power, GPS, cellular, and ignition symptoms before replacing hardware.

Tracker Not Online

Check SIM card is inserted correctly and has active data. Ensure the tracker has power (LED indicator).

Wrong Location Shown

Move the vehicle outside with a clear view of the sky. GPS needs satellite visibility for accurate positioning.

No Ignition Detection

For hardwired installs, verify the ACC wire is connected to an ignition-switched circuit.

Tracker Goes Offline

Check power connections. For OBD2, ensure the port provides constant power when ignition is off.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

OBD2 trackers are designed for self-installation when the vehicle has a compatible port. Hardwired trackers require electrical knowledge. If you are not comfortable with vehicle wiring, use a technician.
For theft prevention, common hidden locations include under the dashboard, behind interior panels, in the trunk, or in the engine compartment. Ensure the location has GPS signal access and does not get too hot.
A correctly installed tracker should not drain a healthy vehicle battery during normal use. If a vehicle sits unused for long periods or shows repeated low-battery alerts, test the battery and inspect the installation.
First, check the SIM card has active data service. Then verify the tracker has power (check LED indicators). Move the vehicle outside with a clear sky view. If issues persist, contact support with your IMEI number.
First, check whether the vehicle runs daily and whether any lights or accessories stayed on. If the battery health is uncertain, book a technician to test the battery and verify the tracker installation.
