AVL is the legacy GPS tracker line associated with the AVL-900 family of vehicle locators. The 900 series uses NMEA-0183 over GSM/GPRS and remains in service across older fleets that have not migrated to 4G.
Both. AVL means "Automatic Vehicle Location" generically. But the AVL-900 family is a specific OEM tracker line that ran on 2G GSM/GPRS in the late 2000s and early 2010s. Many older fleets in West Africa still use them.
If the SIM is still active on 2G (Senegal, Mali, most of West Africa: yes; EU and US: no, 2G is sunset), Traxelio decodes the NMEA-0183 stream. Re-point the server IP via SMS configuration.
If you're in a 2G-active market and the device still reports reliably, no rush. But if it goes offline frequently or 4G/LTE coverage matters in your region, swap to a Teltonika FMC or Concox JC450 over 24 months.
